The closure of schools like Philadelphia’s 150-year-old University of the Arts is another wake-up call.

It's tough to see beloved institutions struggling, but it's a reality that just can't be ignored.

How we respond to today’s unprecedented challenges and profound shifts will define the future of higher education. From right-sizing operating budgets to adopting new technologies to meeting evolving student needs, and reclaiming the public narrative about our value and impact on the world.

Necessary change is everywhere.

Transitions can be uncomfortable, even incredibly painful, but they are crucial. They force us to rethink, restructure, and renew. Adversity fuels progress. This is the story of humanity.

However, change isn’t the enemy of higher education—it's the PACE at which we embrace and create it.

Moving too slowly leaves us vulnerable and frustrated, while more rapid, thoughtful adaptation positions us to thrive.

We should acknowledge the people—students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, families, partners, and communities—impacted by these closures, and lend support in the face of immediate uncertainty.

But the closure of institutions isn't just about mourning the loss; it's about learning. It's about driving all of us toward a more dynamic, innovative Higher Education.

The necessary changes aren't just about keeping one step ahead of disaster but leading the way, creating better opportunities, and building stronger, more resilient institutions.

Embracing change means embracing the future. Let's rally together with optimism and enthusiasm, knowing that we can and will pave a brighter, more dynamic tomorrow.

The world still needs higher education. And higher education needs you.

How will you make a difference?
